In 2006, the United Nations said that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined.
It would be better for the planet to stop eating meat than it would be to buy a hybrid car.
Senior U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization official Henning Steinfeld reported that the meat industry is “one of the most significant contributors to today’s most serious environmental problems.”

Not on the subject of meat, although that's interesting... It seems to me that for every low-emission vehicle made, there's two new drivers getting their licenses; and for every low-watt lightbulb we put in, there's two new people needing light. So we'll never be able to cut down on anything unless we stop procreating.
Which is why I feel like it's socially irresponsible to have your own kids. Or, if you really need to, have one of your own and adopt one.
I used to think China was facist for putting that one-child-only law on their citizens, but now it really seems necessary that all countries do that.
