Barack's big announcement

A TV commercial from last night:

I love this man. If I'd seen this live I would've peed my pants. Here's hoping the real thing comes soon.

I like him too but I didn't like this.

No? I thought it was great. It showed him at his most presidential, and the humor was good too. I feel like he has a lot of control over his persona and over this whole process. He knows tons of people are waiting with baited breath for him to announce, so I think this was a nice little tension-cutter.

Politics is so often depressing, it makes me happy when we can laugh over it.

Yeah. Wasn't feeling it. That wasn't very funny either. Someone last night said he was an "empty suit" I would tend to agree. He is very media friendly, and he is very well spoken other than that though I don't really see him being useful for us. It would be nice to have a president that wasn't like a perpetual car crash while speaking though.

To me calling him an empty suit is as bogus as calling Bono an empty suit. It's valid to question whether they have the experience and judgment to be president, but they're both undeniably rockstars.

You're right, Ben, the humor was good. I guess I just want him to be serious because I respect him so much and want to make sure he doesn't ever do anything to make him less popular with the public.

Even though these days, it's good to show your humor and have more of a down-to-earth persona, I still feel like that isn't the way to get anywhere in politics.

I'm not sure why you think he isn't "useful," Josh.
