Times I thought my brother was dead

1. Once, while sledding, he went into an ice-covered bush that sliced his cheek just below his eye. It bled like crazy and he was whisked to the doctor. I sat at home on the piano bench crying, thinking he wasn't going to come back.

2. The lady in line in front of us for Space Mountain shamed my mom for taking kids as young as us on that particular ride. She made me afraid of the ride, so my mom and I bailed. We sat on a bench waiting for my dad and brother to come off Space Mountain. I cried the whole time, thinking Space Mountain was going to kill my brother. When they came off the ride laughing and excited, I wanted to kill him for worrying me.

3. My parents drove Mike and I in to the city to see Rent. My brother had left shortly before us to go to the mall to see a movie. Traffic was stopped on Rt. 15 and ambulances whizzed past us so we knew it was an accident. This was before cell phones, so we couldn't call my brother, and I was so scared it was him who had crashed that I cried the whole way into Manhattan.
